Piano Lessons for Kids and Teens

Ages 8 - 17

“Mom, Dad, come listen to the new song I learned on the piano”

Imagine coming home after a long day of work and having your child race up to you with a huge smile on their face, pleading with you to come hear the new song they learned at their lesson.

This is an experience that many of the parents of my students have had have after their child comes home from the piano lessons.

This is because we take a fun, innovative, and non-traditional approach to teaching piano.

Unfortunately this isn’t the norm.

Traditional Lessons  =  Frustration

With traditional piano lessons, the student is assigned a song to learn, shown the basics and then sent home to figure out how to play it well.

At home they have to struggle to learn it…on their own,

and figure out the hard parts…on their own

and then do their best to correct any mistakes…on their own.

They come back a week later, and they are “tested” on how well they did. Told what they did wrong then sent home to fix the problems.

As opposed to feeling energized and excited, they struggle along, feeling stressed and concerned about if they’ll be “good enough” for their teacher at the next lesson.

With this approach you can easily see how frustrating it can be for the kids, Not to mention how frustrating it can be for the parents.

Watching your child struggle, and not being able to help, not to mention the fights about having to practice…if you’re like most parents you’ll find yourself asking “Wasn’t this supposed to be fun?”

Learning Piano = Fun and Easy

After 20 years of teaching I’ve discovered a method for teaching piano that makes learning the piano feel fun and easy.

I’ve found that the key to success is that all my beginning students learn their music with me in a fun, low-stress, encouraging environment.

Each week, your child will be excited to come and will leave each lesson with a feeling of accomplishment, not just for being told, “Good Job” by the teacher, but because they will be able to play actual songs.

So instead of struggling to learn the music at home… all alone…when they are home they are able to enjoy playing songs that they have already learned.

This approach benefits everyone.

For Kids:

Playing Piano Feels Easy and Fun – Kids love coming to lessons

Practice is Fun – Practicing at home is transformed from being a frustrating struggle, to something they “Get to do”

Confidence Skyrockets -When they realize how easy it is to learn to play

Learn to play their favorite songs – As students progress they can choose to learn many different styles of songs. (Pop, Classical, Jazz, Movie Themes…)

Use Music Apps and Games – To review and reinforce the learning in a fun, and interactive way

For Kids and Parents:

More time with the teacher – All beginner lessons are 1hr long, twice as long as the standard lessons. Which means that students improve quicker.

Progress faster than traditional lessons – Students actually make faster progress and finish the beginning books in less time that traditional lessons.

No Fights Over Practice at Home – All of the learning is done in the lesson, so they get to “show-off” their songs all week long.

Convenient Location – All lessons are at the National Opera Center at 330 7th Ave, which is one block away from the 28th Street 1 train stop and 3 blocks from Penn Station.

Easy Scheduling – Scheduling options that work around a busy schedule.

This program is perfect for kids and teens ages 8-18, who are just beginning their piano studies. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and have fun…and learn to play a lot of songs on the piano.
